Last weekend’s annual Flaming June running festival saw a female runner claim top spot in the 10K for the first time ever.

Record breaking Daisy Glover was the overall 10k winner, completing the course in 33.41 minutes – beating last year’s 10K winner by five seconds and claiming the accolade of being the first ever female to win the race.

Organised by local wellbeing charity HI Friends, hundreds of runners took part in the event on Sunday 7 June, cheered on by a large crowd and supported by a team of local volunteers.

The half marathon winner was Ben Jones who arrived at the finish line in 1hour 15mins 27s.

A run in the sun

A spokesperson for HI Friends commented: “Thanks to the hundreds of runners who turned out – including one dressed as Tigger – along with the crowds who cheered them on and all the volunteers.

“It was a fantastic day of fitness and fundraising, made extra special as the sun came out and it stayed dry!”

Race participants can find details of the results on the Flaming June website here.

  1. Daisy didn’t just win the race, she smashed it.
I was marshaling within a km of the end, by which time she was about a minute ahead of the next (male) runner.
    Going, gone girl!
