The annual parish meeting of Histon and Impington will take place on Monday, 11 May 2026 – and all are welcome to attend.
There will also be guest speakers from the Cambridge Growth Company and Impington Windmill, alongside updates from the Parish Council on key projects and initiatives involving the community.
An Annual Parish Meeting is a legal requirement where all electors are invited to get together and raise issues that are important to them. The agenda states accompanying papers can be requested from the Parish Office in advance.
‘Invisible work’
In the chair’s report for 2025-26, Councillor Yvonne Murray will explain that the role of the Parish Council is changing with Local Government Reorganisation being “a constant backdrop”.
Her report, published alongside the agenda, says: “Across the sector, councils like ours are being asked to take on responsibilities once held by larger authorities, and the expectations placed on small organisations have grown.
“Much of what residents see is the visible end of the work: meetings, consultations, planning responses, youth services and decisions about our green spaces. The real weight sits underneath, in the invisible work that keeps the organisation safe, compliant and able to act.”
Cllr Murray explains “the invisible work” includes “governance frameworks, procurement exercises, contract drafting, audit responses, risk assessments, land registration, Section 106 monitoring and the detailed officer work behind every agenda”.
There is also “councillors absorbing complex information, attending working groups and carrying out the unseen tasks that allow decisions to be made”.
“This invisible work has grown significantly, and this year we have had to adapt to that reality,” she adds.
Her report for the meeting also outlines what is described as “the most substantial reform of youth provision in a decade”, alongside updates on the Recreation Ground, efforts to identify a location for a pump track, and the Council’s role in representing the parish amid ongoing development in the area.
Unlike last year, there will not be presentations from each of the Parish Council committee chairs.
The Annual Parish Meeting will take place from 7pm in the Community Room at the Histon and Impington Recreation Ground. The agenda is available here. For further information email clerk@hisimp-pc.gov.uk.
