One resident has applied to be co-opted into the Parish Council – but three seats will still remain vacant.
The vacancies arose after too few candidates came forward to fill the 19 available seats in the run up to the May local elections.
Jarek Tomczak, who has lived in Histon and Impington for the past 20 years, says he wants to become a councillor to help protect the villages’ green spaces.

“I believe that the next natural step is to work on strengthening and enforcing their legal safeguarding by joining the Parish Council and contributing to its work,” he says in his application which will be considered at Monday’s next Full Council meeting (20 July).
Jarek, a software consultant, said he would like to serve on the Finance, Governance and Legal Committee, as well as the Nature and Biodiversity Committee if it is re-established.
He added: “Furthermore, I’d like to engage in the development of the next Neighbourhood Plan for our community.”
In April, he spoke as a public participant at the Finance, Governance and Legal Committee to urge councillors to support a survey to gather views of the community on its spending. The survey is expected to be launched in the autumn.
Other matters
At Monday’s meeting, members will also make a decision on a donation request from Histon Library for £200 towards the Summer Reading Challenge.
Decisions will also be made on other spending matters, including:
- £3,075 of renovations for both cricket squares;
- £2,820 of renovations for the bowls green;
- £1,915 towards tennis court improvements;
- £600 towards additional hours to support maintenance of tennis and cricket areas;
- £500 for additional road signs for Remembrance Day commemorations; and
- £300 for weeds to be treated at the Rec.
Meanwhile, Councillor David Legge will put forward a motion that the Parish Council applies for the Local Council Award Scheme, which recognises high standards in governance, operations and community engagement.
The next full meeting of H&I Parish Council will take place on Monday (20 July) in the Community Room at the Rec, starting at 7.30pm. All Histon & Impington residents are invited to attend to listen to the debates, and any resident wishing to address the meeting should contact the office to request a slot.
