New girl guides troop gets cash boost for outdoor adventures

-

Local Guiding troop, First Histon Guides, has been awarded £1,937.33 towards improving its outdoor adventure equipment.

The funding for the newly formed H&I guiding group is part of a Community Chest grant of more than £27,295 awarded by South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC), and being shared between 16 Community projects across South Cambridgeshire.

The troop plan to use the grant to fund camping equipment such as tents, cooking gear and rechargeable lanterns, so that more girls can take part in outdoor adventures, building confidence and life skills.

According to South Cambridgeshire District Council, the money is aimed at “making a difference to people’s lives” and “highlighting the vital role local organisations and volunteers play in strengthening local communities.”

Challenges and adventures

Kimberley Cole from First Histon Guides said: “The new tents and equipment will allow both guide troops in the Village to go away together for the first time. They can benefit from the challenges and adventures of camping, and enjoy being part of the Girl Guiding local village together”.

Cllr Dr. Lisa Redrup, Lead Cabinet Member for Healthy Communities for South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: “These projects show the very best of our district by people coming together to support each other, improve their villages, and create opportunities for others. We’re proud to support them.”
