Histon Cricket Club (HCC) will host a charity cricket match this June which will see a Histon team pitted against international cricketing legends.
The match is one of a series of charity games played around the country by The Lashings World Cricket XI, a group of ex-professional cricketers, who describe themselves as the Harlem Globetrotters of cricket.
The twenty-over match takes place at Histon & Impington recreation ground on Thursday 11 June and forms part of a cricketing afternoon, also including a one-hour coaching session for children (arranged via local schools) a charity auction and a three-course ticketed meal in a marquee sitting alongside a cricketing legend on each table.
Come on over…
The limited overs match itself will be free for spectators to watch with a BBQ and ice cream stall available on site at the Rec. The game will start at 4pm and local residents and cricket fans are invited by the club to come down after school or work to see cricketing legends in action in Histon.
The touring squad includes West Indies cricketing giants Sir Curtly Ambrose, Sir Gordon Greenidge and former fast bowler Courtney Walsh; as well as ex-England internationals Ryan Sidebottom and left-arm spinner Monty Panesar. There will also be commentary from renowned cricket broadcaster Henry ‘Blowers’ Blofeld OBE.
The money raised from the event will help support Histon cricket club and charities supported by Lashings this season.
Ben Leach from HCC said: “We’re really excited to see these cricketing legends come to our club and hope that seeing them in action will inspire young players and perhaps even encourage people to try the sport out. We are a friendly club and welcome new members of all ages and abilities.”
