Histon FC is appealing to supporters and the wider Histon and Impington community to help fund the replacement of floodlights at its stadium.
The appeal follows a discovery made by specialists brought in by club management to the Bridge Road ground to replace existing floodlight bulbs with new cost-effective halogen bulbs. Workers discovered that the eight pylons on which the lights are mounted are also in need of urgent replacement, having stood in place for 40 years with only minimal maintenance.
Unexpected cost
Amid its preparations for the 2026/27 season, the club has secured a grant from the Premier League Football Stadium Fund covering 70% of the cost but needs to raise a further £25,000 – the remaining 30% – to cover the cost of replacing all eight pylons and bulbs.
It is hoped that installing the energy efficiency floodlights will generate savings to the club’s energy costs – which will in turn be invested into activities on the pitch.
Rewarding community contribution
As an incentive, Histon FC is offering rewards for donations. Anyone contributing £250 will receive a signed first team shirt, and for £1,000 or more the donor’s name or business will be entered onto a roll of honour in the clubhouse.
Club spokesperson John Payne said: “We are reaching out to our many friends and well-wishers for assistance with this unexpected cost. The floodlights have served us well, but they now need replacing before they become dangerously unstable.
“We hope that this unforeseen expense will not handicap our efforts on the pitch, particularly after the successes of last season, so any help H&I can give towards our fundraising campaign is greatly appreciated.”
