Histon Brownie Jessica (Jess) Cole has achieved the Gold award having worked her way through the Brownie Badge Books to obtain a full set of Interest badges. Additionally, during the summer of 2025, Girlguiding came up with an extra 18 Interest badges so Jess set herself the challenge of getting all of those finished too before receiving her Gold award!
Jess, aged 10, belongs to the 3rd Histon Brownies which meets locally on Mondays and has been a member of the group since September 2022.
A community effort

The wider community of Histon & Impington has also played a big part in helping Jess get her badges. Jess took part in an Archaeology Dig with Histon & Impington Archaeology Group (HIAG) for the Archaeology badge. Jess and a friend held a bake sale on Histon village green as part of their Charity badges – with Jess raising money for the Wildlife trust for Beds, Cambs and Northants and, for her Speaking Out badge, Jess wrote to her local MP Ian Sollom to address her concerns about plastic pollution.
On top of her long list of badges, Jess was also awarded the Lord Lieutenant Award and was presented with this by the County Commissioner during a special visit.

In the Easter term, Jess will be moving up to the new 1st Histon Guides unit that opened in September where her mum Kimberly is a leader. And, Jess moves on with very happy memories of her time in Brownies. Outside of the regular activities at meetings, Jess has been to the panto, on an overnight trip to London, and enjoyed Clip n Climb and bowling activities. Sharing her excitement at achieving Gold, she told HI HUB: “Most of all I really liked doing all the crafts for the badges and being with my friends”.
