Health survey highlights delays in local treatment

-

A survey looking at the state of local health services, has revealed “urgent action” is needed to improve them, with half of respondents revealing difficulties getting a GP appointment.

The survey, launched by Ian Sollom, the MP for the constituency which includes Histon and Impington, was run in response to over 1,000 constituents writing to the MP with concerns about their local health services.

The survey ran from September 2025 until January this year and was completed by over 500 people.

Dangerous delays

Of those surveyed, over 50% of respondents had found it difficult to get a GP appointment. On hospital treatment 70% had waited over 2 hours, and 34% had waited over 4 hours in Accident and Emergency; and 40% of people said they had experienced a delay or cancellation in their treatment or surgery.

Almost half of respondents said they are currently waiting for surgery with a waiting time of more than a year.

The survey also looked at the state of local dentistry provision and found that nearly 50% of respondents weren’t registered with an NHS dentist at all, and nearly 50% had paid for private dentist treatment.

Improving access

Reviewing the survey results, Liberal Democrat, Sollom – who has also campaigned for fully funded hospice and palliative care, improvements to mental health services, dementia and Alzheimer’s care – called on the Government to act.

Ian said: “Since being elected as an MP, I have been contacted by an overwhelming number of people facing a range of problems accessing vital health services. Some of the experiences I have heard about are truly awful with many people suffering from worsening ill-health due to the delays and cancellations to appointments and operations”.

He continued, “I will continue to work with local NHS partners and organisations to find ways of making improvements to our health services, as well as putting pressure on the Government to bring about vital changes in our area.

“I urge anyone experiencing problems with local health to get in touch.”
