Have your say on New Road parking restrictions

Residents are invited to share their views on proposals for double yellow lines near the entrance to Impington Sports Centre and The Cavendish School.

Concerns about traffic congestion and pedestrian safety in New Road are ongoing, particularly during peak school drop off and pick up times. 

Cambridgeshire County Council has launched a public consultation on the plans, which will run until Wednesday (22 April).

Proposals 

The proposals include installing double yellow lines along the north-western side of New Road in Impington, between the junctions with Macfarlane Close and The Dole. The restrictions would also extend a short distance into these side roads.

In addition, the council is seeking to remove the existing limited waiting parking restriction on the eastern side of Station Road in Histon, covering the stretch outside properties numbered 137 to 161a.

According to consultation documents, the measures are intended to tackle “obstructive parking” that affects visibility for residents entering and leaving their driveways, as well as restricting traffic flow.

The documents state: “The double yellow lines extend around the junctions with Macfarlane Close and The Doles for a similar purpose, while reinforcing Rule 243 of the Highway Code, which advises drivers not to park opposite or within 10 metres of a junction.”

They add that removing the limited waiting restriction on Station Road has been requested to allow residents to park for longer periods.

Meanwhile, £35,000 in funding has been secured to develop a “safe route to school” scheme for New Road, aimed at improving safety and reducing traffic pressures, particularly around Impington Village College.

Residents can take part in the consultation and view detailed plans and maps on the Council’s consultation portal before Wednesday’s deadline on 22 April.
