Groups, schools and sports clubs in the village are invited to apply for funding to support projects that tackle climate change, enhance nature and strengthen community connections.
South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) has committed £152,000 to its Zero Carbon Communities Grant Scheme this year and is now inviting applications. The maximum grant available per project has increased to £19,500.
Where appropriate, applicants are encouraged to seek match funding from other sources, such as parish or town councils, to help projects go further and deliver longer lasting benefits.
Since launching in 2019, the scheme has awarded more than £855,000 to 82 projects across South Cambridgeshire. Successful initiatives have included energy efficiency improvements to community buildings, renewable energy installations, cycling infrastructure, food waste reduction schemes, and community growing and gardening projects.
New criteria
This year’s funding round includes expanded eligibility criteria, meaning projects based on school sites can now apply, while parent and teacher associations are also eligible where proposals deliver wider community benefits.
Sports and recreational groups, including bowls clubs, can also apply for projects that promote wellbeing, mental health and stronger community connections.
Half of the £152,000 funding pot has been allocated to projects that directly reduce carbon emissions or increase carbon capture, while the remaining funding will support community engagement and nature recovery initiatives.
Applications are open until Friday 24 July 2026. Groups considering applying can access guidance and support from the Council to help develop their proposals. Questions can be emailed to zcc@scambs.gov.uk, with further information available on the South Cambridgeshire District Council website.
